The burdens of this crisis are not shared equally, however. The current COVID-19 public health crisis devastates both the economy and health of Americans. An additional focus of her research is to advance population health, health equity, and social and environmental justice in Milwaukee through partnerships with local health departments, non-profit organizations and community-academic collaborations. She is specifically interested in the biology of immune aging and immunological dysfunction as key factors in the aging process. Meier’s research program uses a life course framework to understand the molecular pathways by which social and environmental exposures occurring throughout life get “under the skin” to affect adult and later life health. She is only the 14th UW – Milwaukee faculty recipient of this award since 1982.ĭr. Meier won the Shaw Scientist Award from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, providing seed funding to support innovative research approaches and the career development of young investigators from University of Wisconsin – Madison and University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. The research team at NCRC serves internal customers such as membership and organizing, and develops tools to expand existing membership. Additionally, he has lectured and produced reports on discriminatory labor practices and procurement policies.Īt NCRC Jason helps establish a research agenda that serves member organizations. In this capacity he developed new and powerful methods of identifying minority clusters at the neighborhood level that are often ignored by mainstream bank and non-bank lenders. Prior to coming to NCRC he was a researcher with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and spent over two years documenting and meeting with banks to discuss their investment in minority communities. Prior to working in research he was a mortgage broker and a banker, assisting with home purchases and working with businesses to set up deposit and credit accounts. He is a geographer who has done extensive research on mortgage finance and its impact on people and communities. Jason Richardson is the Director of Research and Evaluation for NCRC.
